ESSENSE consists of a transdisciplinary Strategic Partnership, bringing together higher education institutions, Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutions, business associations and representatives of social enterprises. Each bringing different expertise related to BIM, project management, Information and Communication Technologies as well as Smart Housing and Ambient Assisted Living, where collaboration will be reinforced on problems as important as the ageing population.
BIM
BIM is quickly becoming one of the key drivers in the transformation and modernisation of the construction industry bringing together tools and information from different disciplines and working areas.
Its collaborative environment for the whole team during the whole project brings significant productivity improvements. As with other new techniques, its success depends on training that new graduates are lacking.
AAL
The EU ageing society will soon consume enormous amounts of resources.
Thus, new scalable approaches such as AAL will be needed in future houses and buildings for seniors. In order to maximise its benefits, AAL should be included into the construction workflow though BIM, which is something that current students are not trained to achieve.
Education
ESSENSE will provide a new curriculum and training materials for HE students in building-related areas that, besides providing a deep BIM training, will add the aspects necessary to create new building concepts and solutions for our older adults, which is quickly becoming a real need in the sector.
AIM

-BIM for smart housing and Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) principles and their interaction.
-The needs of the senior citizens and their caretakers (both professional and relatives).
-Transversal and non-technical competences needed for an optimum implementation of BIM principles and AAL concepts, such as project management, innovation and collective skills and competences.
Outputs
-Surveys, comparative analysis and evidence-gathering, studies of real life cases that will provide an accurate analysis of the current situation and evolution of Smart Housing and AAL within the BIM Method.
-Development of an educational philosophy and joint curriculum according to the target groups needs having as a basis both the skills and competences required for the use of BIM tools for the design, construction and adaptation of environments for an active and healthy ageing.
-The development of didactic materials, tools and assessment methods.
-The arrangement of six transnational meetings and four multiplier events.
-The definition of a Blueprint and the deployment of its action plan.
-Project management and implementation activities, quality management and information, promotion and dissemination activities.
